I teach a combined kindergarten and 1st grade classroom. My students come for an under-privileged town. There are approximately 150 people in the town, and we have 40 students in our school. Our school has a 90% free and reduced=price lunch rate.
The students in my classroom are some of the youngest learners in our school. These students seem to thrive when given structure, but they still need to be given that time to explore and learn on their own. That is what I strive to do in our classroom.
Our school is a very positive place for our students. We have students who cry because they don't want to leave in the afternoons. We praise our students and encourage them to do their best in everything they do. We congratulate all successes that our students have, and we help them to create goals for their future.
All students need fun and engaging items in their classrooms, but ours need those on top of the extra love that we are giving them. Having these items would help change their lives.
