I work at a school that serves a community with many challenges. Ninety percent of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Ninety percent of our students are BIPOC. Fifteen percent of our students receive special education services, and eleven percent receive homeless and highly mobile services. Our school population is racially and socio-economically isolated and we are struggling to help them become proficient readers. Even so, our students are tenacious, good humored, and resilient people with hopes and dreams for themselves that must be supported.
