I teach seven students in a special education self-contained classroom, most of which come from low income families. My students have different disabilities that include language and speech delays, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities.
Every day we teach our students using a multi-sensory approach. Students love moving and exploring while they learn new concepts and it gives them a way to connect to the material that they are learning. As the number of children with autism and sensory processing disorders rise, students with behaviors continue to rise. It is important for teachers to discover different ways meet the needs of our students.
