I have third grade students and we average 25 kids in a classroom. Our school is located in a high poverty neighborhood, in fact we have over a 80% free and reduced lunch population. Our building is older and often get the furniture that other teachers do not want. We do not have a lot of school funding because of our location. Many times anything I buy for my classroom is out of my own pocket. I have tried alternative seating for most of this school year and I love it. The kids feel like they have a choice instead of me trying to control every part of their day. I have found that just simply sitting on a carpet spot keeps them more focused than sitting in your standard desk chair. They also like it because they do not have to sit next to anybody if they do not want to. There are just days some of my kids want to be alone when working. I feel that the items I am asking for would really benefit my goal of a complete set of alternative seating for all students in my class.
