Building materials and board games are an excellent way to start our day and warm up to using English. The English Language students often feel shy when they first walk in to my room. They only see me and their friends once per week.
When we start our morning with manipulatives and play, the students ease into their day remembering social language that has been discussed in previous class sessions. Board games, puzzles, building materials allow exploration and discussion with their friends. Story cubes are also a fun way of being reminded of stories to tell each other without feeling like "learning". They are learning and having fun!
