Our students want to learn about what it means to design their own babies and how their DNA is expressing the traits that they see in each other in everyday life. Many of our students enjoy being creative and having fun as they learn. Every student learns from different methods of teaching and having the resources ensures easier learning and hands on fun. These materials will give our students the opportunity to be hands on with building models of DNA that they will use to design their own babies. They will be able to choose their sequence of DNA based on the color pipe cleaner they use and interpret what that sequence is coding for (traits).
Modeling DNA structure provides the foundation students need to understand what their genetic information does. These resources provide a tangible and manipulative experience for students to comprehend the structure of DNA which is fundamental to understanding the foundations of biology.
