Support Mrs. Antal's classroom with a gift that fosters learning.
Flexible seating in a classroom not only allows students to have the ability to choose what learning space works best for them, but it also allows for them to work collaboratively and cooperatively with one another. The idea that they can come in each day and choose a place to be and change to a new space for another activity later in the day allows students to have more control over their own learning. Currently I have only desk seating in my classroom and I have many students who prefer to stand or I watch them slump in their chairs as they try to get comfortable. They learn better and stay more focused if they are comfortable and in a space they chose. With flexible seating the classroom has more open space and students feel less restricted. It is easier for them to work in pairs or small groups when they have options for where to sit or stand. These new resources will help me provide options to my students so they can make a choice that works for them.
I feel that by providing flexible seating it will make my classroom seem more inviting and motivating. My students will feel comfortable as they walk in the room and know that any seat or space in the room is available to them. They won't feel ownership to just one desk and chair, rather they will feel as if we, together, own the whole classroom. The entire space will belong to all of us and the students will have the opportunity to learn in a variety of locations throughout the room.
