In our ELA classroom, we use centers to help us learn phonics and reading comprehension. Groups of students will use apps on iPad to listen to literature as part of an independent student center. Without this resource, students are limited in the kinds of literature they are able to access independently as they are not yet fluent readers.
Students will be exposed to literature from around the world which will increase their listening comprehension skills while giving them the boost they need to grow from emerging to fluent readers. Students will have the opportunity to further engage with the stories through discussions in their literature circles.
As an educator, it is my primary goal to encourage students to become lifelong learners with a passion for reading. Listening to stories is a key factor in building vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension in primary grades.
