It is my intent to attain strategies and skills that will afford me optimum opportunities to holistically (academically, socially, emotionally) build the capacity of all students that I encounter. I firmly believe, this educational training focuses on providing participants with hands-on opportunities to see how research-based student centered programs work to help our social emotional learners. Each year I attempt to improve teaching and learning connections with my students by setting rules, creating behavior plans etc. These actions simply are not sufficient when at the end of the year, I haven't met the needs of the children.
My aha moment was when I read an article about SEL and how these children struggle in school; because we are not efficiently trained to adequately meet their needs. At Ron Clarke's school they have systems and programs in place that are geared towards creating opportunities for SEL students to excel and become productive in their communities. I believe my teaching skills will be enhanced at this educator's training. Ultimately, I will be able to exhale at the end of the year knowing that I have made an even greater impact in my students lives.
