I am asking for four Wobble Chairs, two bean bags, two Backpatter seat pillows, two balance balls, and carpet to create a flexible classroom for my students. Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
I took a workshop on implementing flexible classrooms, and learned that with flexible seating students' grades improve; students seem happier and more engaged; and students participate more and have more invigorating conversations.
Classroom space needs to evolve to meet students’ individual needs impacts how they learn, how they interact, and the entire classroom experience. Some students perform best at a desk, but many do not.
When you walk into Starbucks, you have choice. You get to choose where to sit. I want to create a learning environment that caters to all styles of learning. My students need to be able to work where they feel comfortable and where they will be most productive. In addition, the more active students are able to be in the classroom, the more focused they will be in class.
I hope you can help me to make my dreams of a flexible learning classroom, a reality.
