I am asking for basic classroom supplies as my first project. These are items myself and my students have lived without in years prior, due to financial constraints and other priorities. First, I am asking for calculators (with a storage caddy to prevent loss) because many of my students struggle to achieve 100% proficiency in basic calculations. This problem then leads to an increased struggle and error when performing more complex tasks assigned in 6th grade. I am also asking for a storage system (cubbies/mailboxes) to increase a more efficient communication system between myself, my students, and their parents. Next, I am asking for a class set of scissors because they serve a greater purpose in all subject areas and it is easier when students don't have to share. Finally, I am asking for a class set of ultra fine tip Sharpies to outline art projects and make them POP!
The more a child has access to and/or experiences, the greater their chances for success. If I (with your help) can provide these essentials to my students, they will be able to work quicker and more efficiently than without them. They will also feel responsible and proud to have some items to call their own throughout the school year.
