Having the right supplies for this shadow puppet project will allow students to build puppets that they can use to inspire the development of their characters, emphasize the importance of including setting, and strengthen their storytelling voices. This project is all about the students' voices and stories. Students will develop their stories and then begin to construct shadow puppets. The puppets will be used to work through scenes of the story to enhance and support the revision stage of writing. Then students will use the puppets to tell the final story. Shadow puppets are a great way to motivate even the most reluctant student to share independent writing and to engage in the work of others.
