Being a middle school student is tough. It's tough to feel like you fit in, tough to socialize with new peers, and it's a tough time to simply grow up. It's tougher when you are a special needs child. As a special needs teacher, I see this on a regular basis. As a strong advocate for these kids, it is my goal to find every avenue possible for middle school kids with special needs to make it in today's world. Teaching them the daily life skills they need in creative, safe, and inclusive ways is also my goal so they have the same opportunities as their regular education peers. Making others aware of their abilities also helps in their ultimate goal of community success for the future as functional members in our society.
