Students learn science best by experimentation. My students work with concrete examples whenever possible. Working in a low income school, however, does not offer us the opportunity to work with real scientific equipment many times.
My students will use the NewLog Probe System in order to increase the accuracy of their investigations, while building technology skills that will be required throughout their lives. Use of the Bridge Pack allows multiple sensors to be connected to a computer. Using three desktop computers and my personal laptop, we can create four working stations for investigation.
With a science curriculum that spans fourth and fifth grade standards, there are multiple uses for the NeuLog Probes. For instance, students will use the temperature probes for weather data, experiments with adding and removing heat to matter, maintaining constants in an investigation, and countless other opportunities. Voltage, Magnetic, and Current probes will be used for electrical investigation, as well as troubleshooting in other areas. Other probes can be added as funds are available, increasing the use of the base system. The NeuLog System will allow students to help build problem solving skills that can be utilized throughout life.
