My students have a range of reading skills spanning from kindergarten reading levels to early second grade. To help my students continue to improve their literacy skills it is crucial to give them access to leveled books that span the range of readers in my class. I want to make sure that my students are reading books that are at both their instructional level and their independent level. Having them practice their reading and comprehension strategies in books that are too easy or too difficult will not help them grow as readers. For this reason, I would like to have sets of leveled books that my students can choose from that match where I am instructing them during their guided reading group.
By offering a leveled section in my classroom library, I believe my students will have better access to "just right" books.
In return, this will build their confidence as readers, as well as help them continue to build their fluency, reading strategy use, and comprehension skills.
