My students need to get books in their hands and practice reading. The only way to improve their basic reading skills that are crucial for future success, is to get the students passionate about reading. Students need exposure to many different genres so that they can find one that they enjoy. Many times students are overwhelmed with the choices and do not even know how to select books that are at the appropriate reading level. Building a classroom library will help give the students access to age appropriate books.
The donation of these books will give my students the opportunity to select books of their choice, in a comfortable and educational setting of a classroom library. Students will also be able to read at their own pace and set reading goals, instead of worrying about due dates from the regular high school or public library.
I will be able to plan lessons, create book club groups, and create activities that will enhance their learning not only of the books themselves, but of the lessons taught within these great books.
