The books selected for this project will be used for read aloud units throughout the year. We will be completing 8 different read aloud units throughout the school year. The units were developed using concepts from "The Leader in Me," by Stephen Covey and the growth mindset model. The books chosen will be grouped into one of the 8 units based on their theme or message. The 8 different units are labeled by their big idea; perseverance, community and culture, bullying, citizenship, leadership, and 3 author studies. The books will also be available for the students to read and browse during their independent reading time.
Having these books will help students to not only build their reading and literature skills, but it will also encourage them to grow their character. This character building will lead to higher self-esteem in the students, improved behavioral choices in class, and more effort shown on assignments. Collectively, these things will lead to more learning time and a happier classroom overall.
