My students often lack social skills and need a safe way to communicate their emotions and or opinions. This generation of students is primarily invested in new technological experiences such as creating videos in their classes. They will benefit from the iPad because they can record videos about bullying, showing respect, and ways to be inclusive of all students in their school throughout the year.
My students are at times timid and lack social skills, so often use technology as a way to step into a world that is different from their own. The fifth grade leadership students can create videos, take pictures, and explore new ways to show their classmates the many creative projects leaders create. They can use this technological outlet to show their classmates and community just how talented they are and how they can create a safe, welcoming, and healthy environment at their school.
I have a selective mute student who can HIGHLY benefit from this iPad. He will be in third grade this upcoming academic year and has not spoken to any of his teachers ever. Through the use of his classroom iPad last year ( that he will no longer have) he was able to demonstrate to his teacher his reading and academic ability. If it was not for the iPad he would of had no other way to show his teacher and other staff his talents and academic skills.
