Everyone loves a good movie, but often people say the book and the movie differ in many ways. I have shown the series The Hatfields and McCoys to my eighth-grade students before and they were highly captivated by it. However, WV Studies history shouldn't just come from a movie perspective. I want to encourage my students to use various sources (especially primary) to gain their own perspective and books can increase their reading fluency and comprehension skills. This is why I would like to use The Coffin Quilt as an introduction to the Hatfield-McCoy feud before showing the movie.
