My students will be doing an in-depth study of Appalachia. As we go through different facets of Appalachia, I am going to tie in various hands-on activities, such as folk art painting, basket weaving, quilting, crocheting/knitting, butter churning, etc. Along with the hands-on activities, I have included several children's books that are targeted toward Appalachian Heritage. In addition, I included a CD that focuses on Bluegrass Music.
This project will allow students to not only hear and see part of their heritage, but actually be a part of it. Your generous donation would give such an opportunity to our very deserving kids. I want my students to understand that Appalachia and poverty are not synonyms. I want them to know where they came from and how hard their ancestors worked.
