This year, I will be teaching World Geography to incoming freshman. For many of my students, this will be the first time they've seen a world map in many years. While our classroom has 2 older desktop computers, our school does not have a wealth of available equipment. Our district has decided to move to a Bring Your Own Device policy and encourage the use of technology with student materials.
Unfortunately, the majority of my students (many of whom are recent immigrants) do not have a device to bring/use. Having a set of classroom tablets will allow students to work in groups and access resources around the world. They will be able to explore maps from different perspectives, access videos filmed all over the world and even connect to students in different places. In 2016, we have so many more ways to show students the world than a flat map on a wall and I want to give my students the resources to explore.
