The under the desk bike pedals will provide the gross motor and vestibular stimulation necessary to prepare my students to sit quietly and listen or complete independent work. These materials will not directly teach my students new skills, but they will help prime my students for learning in all content areas and with many daily living skills. For example, while I'm teaching a lesson on number naming, one of my students may be rolling around on the floor having difficulty maintaining their space and needing gross motor activity. If we had the pedals for under the desk, I can have one of the aides work with that student back at their desk while I continue teaching, without making too much of a commotion. This will also help when I am teaching and need the students seated at their desks. If a student needs to move I can place the pedals under their desk and they will be provided with the movement they need. The headphones and boom box will help me create a quiet learning environment to learn. My students struggle with reading and need to listen to reading, read aloud and be given direct phonics instruction. This center will enable to work with students 1:1 while providing quiet meaningful reading instruction by listening to reading.
The donations for this project will improve my classroom by increasing learning while reducing the number of behavioral issues, because I will be able to provide the appropriate stimulation that my students need, but cannot voice, due to their disabilities. With fewer behavioral issues, we can increase our learning and time on task. I'm looking forward to seeing my students happier and ready to learn
