My students face challenges daily many adults cannot handle. The idea of growing a garden in school was developed to help my students to experience a hands on project that would mature them educationally and emotionally. The hands on experience will allow them to learn patience, hard work, problem solving and teamwork as they watch their garden grow to produce the fruits of their labors. My students need gardening supplies (gloves, vegetable kits, and tools) to create their vegetable patch garden.
The gardening experience will also help the students learn about healthy living lifestyles and food choices. This garden can help my students develop a positive work ethic and outlook on life going forward as they face life challenges.
