In the past, strong grades and test scores were what employers were looking for in their potential employees. This has changed dramatically in the last decade, though. Employers are now looking for employees are team players. They want employees who have strong communication and collaboration skills and can think critically and problem-solve.
In my math classroom, I want my students to learn how to communicate and collaborate effectively as well how to think critically and problem-solve. With my current classroom setup, individual desks are pushed together in an attempt to make groups. It feels too individualized, however. By having round tables that my students can write directly on, my students will all be able to share equally with their teammates. We are constantly doing group work in my classroom because my students can learn so much more when they need to explain their thinking. These round tables would be an amazing resource for my students to use during their group time.
