My students love playing instruments! Currently, we have very few instruments in our classroom. The ones we have are very old and require constant repair. Because over half our students are from lower income households, I want to give them the opportunity to play some larger instruments and rare instruments such as the steel drum that they would normally never get the opportunity to play.
These instruments will serve so many purposes in our classroom! We explore music around the world where the steel drum plays a big role in Jamaican music. The metallophone and xylophone help the students relate the note names they know to what the note actually sounds like. The steel drum also has the note names written on it. These instruments will be so much fun to play and help the students better understand reading music.
