The students that make up my fourth grade classroom hail from Latin America and Africa; each helping to create a rich tapestry of traditions and ideas. Our school is in an impoverished area of New York City; 99.9% of our children are able to receive free breakfast and lunch. The school does not provide paper or a copier to teachers, which makes it nearly impossible to create the activities necessary for students to succeed. The students are sweet and eager to learn. Each child brings with them a fresh perspective on the world around them. I never cease to be amazed by their desire to understand life.
