My goal is to provide students with hands-on interdisciplinary experiences. This project includes technology, math/ science materials, engineering kits, and books that will allow students to experience the connection between literacy and all other content areas, outside of reading and social studies.
Students will be able to use the Osmo Coding Set and the Code and go Mouse and Activity set to explore and practice basic programing, while also working to build their skills or working in groups to plan and execute their ideas. Students will use the Kids First Amusement Park and Automobile Engineering Kit to practice working in groups to make plans for building, testing out their designs, determining what may not have worked, or what they want to change, and then making improvements.
Look, Listen, Taste, Touch, and Smell: Learning About Your Five Senses and other books about the five senses will be used to teach students about and help students build their observational skills. As students build these skills, they will engage in science activities relating to apples and pumpkins, using books like How do Apples Grow? and From Seed to Pumpkin to learn about where apples and pumpkins come from and how they grow.
This project will increase students engagement in and knowledge of STEM.
