This upcoming year, I am implementing flexible seating in my classroom. I have tables instead of traditional desks and want to give the students different seating options. They will be allowed to choose the seating option where they feel they learn best. The stability balls, wobble cushions, and chair pads will be three of the options they will be allowed to choose from. The stability balls will be used at one of the tables. The wobble cushions and chair pads can be used in many different ways. The students can sit on them on the floor, at a lowered table or anywhere in the classroom with a clipboard. They can also place them in a chair or on top of stools we have located in different areas of the classroom.
Research of flexible seating has shown improved grades, increased student engagement, and more student participation.
The fluorescent light filters will help to improve the environment of our classroom by decreasing glare and flickering from overhead fluorescent lights. Research shows fluorescent lights can cause eyestrain, headaches, and even anxiety. These filters will help to improve students' levels of concentration, reduce tension and anxiety, and promote positive performance.
I feel that integrating these things into my classroom will positively impact our learning environment, and help students to better concentrate and be more engaged!
