I am not saying a Reading Textbook isn't effective, I'm just saying kids deserve more than one story per week, a list of 20 words to cram until Thursday night, and Friday tests then moving on. That is why I am asking for your help!
I've found a FANTASTIC curriculum plan for my students to engage in hundreds of books instead of 36 stories in a year. Now, I do have a library full of books for my students to checkout & take home to enjoy, as does our huge library. I also read lots of books from our classroom collection as well.
This is different in that each book gives me an opportunity to teach so many skills besides just one weekly focus. They learn about authors, they ask for more books from certain genres, they become a part of their learning!!!! It's awesome, for real, and they deserve it. If you feel led to help me make it a reality, I will use this project to help me get the rest of Units 2, 3, and 4. By having these books, daily lessons will begin with a group reading in a cozy spot in my classroom, we will discuss the skills they are to work on & they will break off into groups and work on the tasks. This is much more effective than a workbook page!!
Early finishers can use these books for independent reading, and all books will be organized by levels & interest.
