The variety of graphic novels, fiction, and non-fiction texts that would make up this library would provide my students with materials directly in their classroom. This would help to promote self-inquiry and discovery as they are able to read books about topics throughout World History, better helping them understand more difficult concepts through a style of learning they are most comfortable. Students could use these texts to become further engaged in topics they already find interesting or to springboard their interest on topics new to them.
Using non-traditional texts like graphic novels will further help students who may otherwise struggle to become engaged in history interested in the material! The ultimate goal of any history classroom is to have students critically think about the past as a way of understanding their present situation and how to best solve problems within our communities moving forward.
The ultimate goal of this grant is to create an in class library of essential primary and secondary sources for students to use as they feel necessary to further their study and/or to pique their interest on topics of research. The library we build will help to further the scope of our current classroom, and help achieve one of the main draws of inquiry and Problem Based Learning, creating a more interesting 鈥渧ehicle鈥 to communicate the desired content to students.
