Students develop lifelong skills through hands-on learning that occurs during play. The importance of play in a Pre-K classroom can not be underestimated. When children are at the sand and water table, they are using and developing their find motor skills. These skills help them with penmanship and self-help skills such as cutting, sewing, grasping, buttoning, zippering, and pouring.
Research reports that students who have sensory issues benefit from exposure to different textures. The sand and water are therapeutic and can de-sensitize students with hypo-sensitivity.
The students will be engaging in an activity that is extremely beneficial without even knowing they are doing work because they are having so much fun!
