This year students will be on their computers, attempting to learn ideas of space, proof, and problem-solving from a 2-D screen. I'm excited to get them off their computers and folding origami paper to explore geometric relationships and solve puzzles. I also want to give each student a ruler and protractor to form the basis of mathematical and scientific inquiry - measurement.
Geometry is the one opportunity in high school to explore the skills of proof and formal logic. The origami paper and measuring tools will allow them to explore these fundamental concepts in a hands-on, tactile way.
