During guided reading instruction, I read with a small group of students while the rest of my class works in literacy centers. The listening center is one of our literacy centers.
Having a listening center benefits my students in many ways. Listening to books provides a model of fluent reading. It exposes them to a variety of genres and increases listening comprehension. They are also exposed to new vocabulary.
I am currently using a huge "boom box" as a cassette player in my listening center. It is difficult for my students to operate; therefore, the new portable cassette player would allow my students to operate the center independently. The Best Buy Listening Center has a storage space for the portable cassette player, books, and cassettes/CDs. This will free up space on the table for my students to be able to complete activities based on the books they have listened to. New headphones are also included, which are needed to replace the old, chunky headphones my students are using now. New books, like "Miss Nelson is Missing" and "Caps for Sale" are classroom favorites that my students will be able to enjoy over and over. These new items will make the listening center a fun-filled learning experience.
Your generous donation to our project will improve my second- grade classroom by building stronger fluent readers . Having good listening skills is important to a child's development. The listening center will motivate my students to read more plus have fun while learning!
