Studies show that students are spending too much time in static seated positions. This is not only bad for their health and growth, but also hinders their learning. My lessons encourage inquiry, creativity and collaboration, and are geared towards making learning accessible to every student. It is time that my classroom environment does the same. By providing students with choice, variety and flexibility, I hope to encourage independence and engagement in learning. I strongly believe that by creating an environment that acknowledges my students' variety of learning styles and needs, I will be more successful in fostering joy and excellence in their learning, and better prepare them for college. I will use bed raisers to modify existing tables into standing desks, low coffee tables to provide floor seating in the front of the room, and balance balls and bouncy bands to offer kinesthetic seating options at traditional desks. Bankers boxes will create an organized space for student materials and supplies. With these few changes, I will be able to offer my students authentic, comfortable, and creative seating options while learning and collaborating.
