Providing a warm, safe, and inviting environment that fosters not just a desire for learning, but one that ignites the imagination and sparks conversation, is something that I have a passion to create for my students. Using the current furnishings that are allowed myself as a teacher creates the opposite effect. The standard desks section students off into their own spaces, closing the potential that could be had for expanding perspective and listening to each other and the variety of opinions. Cooperative work is a struggle as the physical conditions in the classroom hinder the process. Instead, drawing from the likes of King Arthur, I want my students to experience equality and to enter into dialogue with each other by sitting on cushions at lower level round tables, where debates and learning from one another can better occur. When it is time to meet as a whole class to discuss a lesson, we have a meeting rug to collaborate and learn. A long rectangular table to work on group projects where meetings of the minds will take place to find solutions. To help my students who need to be more active, bar height stools and tables so that they may stand as they work. Chairs that give students a sense of welcome, and safety as they curl up to read the book that just might change their lives. This is the environment I wish for my students to experience, and which I need your help in achieving
