How many of us like to sit in one spot for hours on end, while being required to maintain focus and productivity? This seems like such a daunting task, but at the same time this is what we are asking school age children to do, children who have more energy than we can imagine and more potential than we are currently seeing.
Research has shown that student engagement and productivity skyrocket when students are given choice in their seating.
Flexible seating benefits are profound, due to the fact that the classroom is reorganized to make it more student-centered. Children will no longer enter into my classroom and feel like they are out of bounds or that they don’t have their own space.
I am specifically requesting my items in order to create an engaging learning environment for every student. Each item has a very specific purpose, whether that be a type of seat or even a storage shelf to house books, notebooks and folders; since most desk will be moved out of my room.
Three of the five areas that I am most excited about include a futon and 2 bungee chairs. This area will give the students an "at home feeling" and will allow for a more relaxed atmosphere.
My other favorite area will be the wobble stools. These stools will be especially amazing for my special education students, who like to be on the move.
Finally, there will be a set of tables that are supported by bed risers. At these tables students can either stand and work or sit at the high top chairs.
The other areas are equally as important! These areas will be the finishing touches on a classroom that will be designed to inspire, encourage and shape our future leaders!
