Research shows that giving choices to students is beneficial to their learning. At 5 and 6 years old, it is also important that students feel comfortable in their learning environment. After teaching for 4 years, I have seen many different students come through my classroom. Not all students are the same, nor do they have the same learning styles or needs. Through this project, I hope to better meet my students learning styles and needs, while also making them comfortable in the classroom.
As an adult, I rarely sit in a chair at a desk to work, so why should kindergarteners have to sit that way to work? This project will benefit those students who have difficulty sitting in a chair to work. They will not only have the choice to sit on a balance ball or balance disc, but also the choice to sit on pillows or stand. When they are comfortable working, they will work to their full potential. I feel that through this project my students will work to their full potential while creating a love of learning.
