I teach special education for 2nd and 3rd grade in a rural town in Utah. We work with students with disabilities that range from specific learning disabilities to students with Autism Spectrum disorder.
Many students may require sensory input for focus & attention. Some students require social stories to help with social skills and behavior regulation. Many of my students also require occupational, physical, & speech therapy in order to make academic gains.
Being in a rural town we often find we have limited resources and have to help students in multiple ways (i.e. using a weighted pencil while doing math work to help with OT gains). These resources will help us to meet the individual needs of each student.
