Looking ahead to next school year, I am concentrating on student safety and well being. One of my requests is for air purifiers for the classroom. We spend our days in a building that is 20+ years old, so it naturally dusty and moldy. My hope is that the purifiers will improve the air quality and make a positive impact on the health of my students.
I teach students who have all types of needs, and my goal is to provide more opportunities to move appropriately in the classroom. My students have choices to stand, or to work at a yoga mat, but I’d like to further expand their choices. An area that I would like to improve is our computer station. I'm asking for textured balance cushions that can be placed on the chairs to help engage the child's body with balancing to enable better concentration on the computer tasks. Furthermore, I’d like to provide additional balance cushions for student choice to work around the room and kick bands for students who need that outlet. The balance cushions and kick bands will allow for unobtrusive measures for little bodies to fidget while working.
Lastly, for my own sanity, I ask for covers for our chair legs. We have linoleum flooring and metal chairs, and, well, as you can imagine, there is a constant barrage of squealing in our room. It is distracting and unpleasant.
