My students need triple beam balance scales to collect data needed to graph and chart investigations. Recently, we've needed scales to answer whether the mass changes after a piece of gum has been chewed. And whether mass changes during a chemical reaction or is matter lost. In the upcoming weeks, we're getting ready to explore whether air should be considered matter or not. Does it take up space? Can we find a way to measure its mass? Currently, we are using plastic scales and paper clips to gain information as best we can, but often our results are skewed and inaccurate due to the poor tools we have. We have learned so much and have created so many charts and graphs out of what we have discovered, but we need better tools. We need more accurate results, so we can measure every single solution and reaction, down to the last grain of sugar we dissolve. We need better equipment, so we can test the possibilities as far as we can take it!
