My students need some good old fashioned strategy games to improve their critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. Chess, Scrabble, Mastermind, etc. will give students practice in cooperative play and conflict resolution as well.
These logic games are fun and challenging and engage students while giving them a break from so much "screen" time. Very few of my students even have board games at home these days. These games give them a break from structured class time yet teach so many life skills like cooperation, communication, problem solving, and strategic thinking. These skills will carry over to their academic subjects by improving their ability to think of topics in a variety of ways.
