Our world has become technology driven. My students have access to a program that includes over 2,000 digital leveled-readers that we can use during our small reading groups. However we currently have to print copies of the books on paper, and they quickly become worn from wear and tear. If my students could access the program on an iPad they could use the tablet to make notes, read, listen to, and highlight information in the text. Preparing students for college and career readiness is key and technology is at the forefront of most career paths. Most college textbooks are now available online! Teaching my students these skills will be beneficial for the remainder of their educational career.
Technology is a great way to engage students! I can not only use the iPads to have my students read, but to practice foundational skills such as committing math facts to memory. Since many of my students do not have access to computers at home, this is a great way for them to experience how technology can relate to and enhance their learning. My students love to learn, and having these iPads in the classroom will only add fuel to their learning fire!
