There is so much to teach in so little time! I have found that in order to fit it all in, and engage my students, there is a power in hands-on work and integrating subjects. Investigating magnets, playing with forces of motion, up-close observation for living and non-living things, building structures, exploring with water what will sink and float, and applying proper story structures to create fairytales, will all be made possible using this STEM kit. The STEM materials I selected will help my students explore science, integrated with technology and math. Math comes alive when you see it in action. The kit provides many manipulatives as well as story problems the kids can follow and create, as well as real world tools to calculate answers. The fairytale portion of the kit fits in perfectly with the core allowing students to create problem solving scenarios and then write about them.
Driven by curiosity, students can learn to drive their own learning. I love to be able to guide their education as they ask questions and work to figure it out through study. We will use these STEM materials in our guided learning groups. We will discuss our explorations with writing, experiments, and class discussions. These materials will create an opportunity for the kids to not only learn, but really investigate.
