Returning to school looks completely different this school year, and we will have many changes in the classroom to ensure our kiddos are safe. For example, students will be 6ft apart, they must wear masks, movement around school will be limited, we can no longer have community supplies, and we can no longer have any carpet or any soft surfaces. All these changes may be slightly overwhelming for students since the classroom will look different, and they will not be able to do a lot of small groups and partners work in close proximity.
As their teacher, I am responsible for teaching them more than academics. Students will learn how to remain safe in the classroom while social distancing and still enjoying their learning space.
With flexible seating, students will have a variety of seating options that will still allow them to feel connected to other students while working in a spaced-out group. It will also help them get the “wiggles out” since we will not be moving around a lot! All of my students will receive individual recess bags since our outside recess may be limited. These individual recess bags are easy to clean and contain different items for students to enjoy that can also be sanitized.
