My second grade students will use these supplies and resources throughout the school year to work on STEAM projects. On our weekly projects and enrichment day, our class will engage in a wide variety of hands-on STEAM activities that will incorporate not only team building skills, but also critical thinking and problem solving skills. Our STEAM activities will not only be linked to Science, but also to Math and Literacy. Literacy will be use to provide some inspiration to my students. For example, students can physically design and construct the setting of a story they have read.
Children learn best through hands-on exploration and these materials will help provide my students with concrete and memorable enrichment opportunities.
My students will be able to design, evaluate and discuss their inventions. The Magformers, building blocks, Play-Doh, Brain Flakes, and Legos will provide my students various mediums to create structures from. They will not only use their imagination, but also through the problem solving process, they will be able to improve their creations. One of my goals is that through continual engagement of STEAM activities, my students will become innovative thinkers.
