Hello! My name is Lynn Tarkey, I am a middle school reading teacher at Robert H. Jamison in Cleveland, Ohio. The school serves students and their families, whom fall below the federal poverty line. All students recieve free breakfast and lunch. Currently the school is making positive strides in improving academic achievement on mandated state assessments. However, the middle school (grades 6-8) students do not have access to grade appropriate novels/literature. Therefore, I am attempting to raise 10, 000 dollars which can be used to purchase novels/literature that correlate with quarterly unit themes, in conjunction with the adopted curriculm, Springboard. In addition to novels, I would like to purchase informational texts (students struggle tremendously in this area of reading). Since students have different interests, I need to be able to offer them choice in literacy while still fullfilling requirements.
