This project requests need a variety of games including 10 Number Shut the Box, Qwirkle, Bounce-Off, Gears!Gears!Gears!, Blokus, Suspend, and Brain Flakes. These games strengthen social skills which in first grade is something that we focus on all year long. These skills are what kids need to succeed in life. Social skills are used daily by kids on the playground, in the lunchroom, or on the bus. By giving them time to practice in the class, they can hone their skills to become more successful when faced with real life social situations. These games also build critical thinking skills and executive function. In order to be successful critical thinkers students need many chances to take risks, be flexible, wait, or anticipate what someone else will do. These games allow them to strategize, plan, organized and practice impulse control. Play is so important to children. Play is a child's work. My class needs a playful community to grow as learners and as people.
