Instead of making science an abstract discussion on reactions and equations, science comes to life through hands-on, inquiry-based learning activities. Science becomes how we interact with the world again. Students begin to understand that the observations they make in the real world constitutes science. As they begin to understand how scientists think, they begin to think like scientists.
Discovery, wonder, and passion for the natural world is stimulated and developed. Students take the learning into their own hands and begin to internalize the current concepts so that they can discover and create new concepts, equations, and ideas about how the earth really works. Potassium chlorate will be used with gummy bears in order to demonstrate oxidation/reduction reactions. Safety gloves will protect the students while they are performing experiments. Sulfuric acid and sugar will be combined to form an exothermic reaction.
