My students love stories that inspire them to believe change is possible! My goal through this book club is to teach my students how they can create change and make learning science relevant.
Literacy is a skill essential for success; it is also a deficiency we (my students and I) experience in the classroom on a daily basis. Through the book club, my students will have opportunities to practice reading, writing, and speaking. Furthermore, they will learn how scientists, including doctors and researchers, apply scientific knowledge, and discover how the ethics of using scientific knowledge is equally important to the knowledge itself.
I am optimistic that the story of Henrietta Lacks will motivate my students to find and read stories that challenge their views of the world!
