Many students at my school come from homes that are considered economically disadvantaged. As a Title 1 school, several reading initiatives were implemented to promote reading along with encouraging and informing students of how important it is to their daily existence. Reading and social studies are areas where our students continue to need enormous improvements. As a Special Education teacher, I know how important reading and social studies are for our future leaders of tomorrow. With the daily responsibility of educating students, I want to improve and significantly change their current methods of receiving instruction while increasing their vocabulary and word knowledge to become fluent readers. Being a middle school teacher, materials to make my classroom more engaging so my students begin to have a better appreciation for reading and social studies by using technology to reiterate skills being taught daily.
